Wellington

On Thursday morning we left Kerikeri to visit the Tribal NZ office in Wellington. Our flight from Kerikeri to Auckland was at 11.30am. We arrived at the airport which turned out to be a big shed next to the runway. There was no security at all. We sat at some tables outside waiting for the plane to arrive. When it did land it drove right up to the airport building – virtually to the door! It really is more like a bus service. The flight to Auckland was only 30 minutes.

From Auckland we boarded the next flight to Wellington. This flight was only 42 minutes in the air so we arrived in Wellington at about 2.30pm.

We got a taxi to the hotel and checked in so we could leave our bags and go for a look around Wellington. Our room was on the 14th floor so had quite a good view of the city.
We walked around the quay and then back through the city. It was a really nice day – a bit windy but apparently it always is in Wellington.

Friday morning we found the Tribal office. It was pouring with rain and really windy so we looked a bit bedraggled when we arrived! We met the 5 people working in the office and there were a couple of others over from the UK. It was nice to meet the other NZ people face-to-face.

We then found out there had been an earthquake in Wellington at about 4am that morning. Several of the others had been woken by it and said it was very scary – we didn’t notice a thing! There was another one around lunch time – apparently they happen quite frequently but are very deep and are not often felt.

We left for the airport at around 4pm to catch our 5.30pm flight back to Auckland. The last flight back to Kerikeri was on a VERY small plane – only 19 seats, one either side of the aisle. They call it the “flying cigar” and for someone who doesn’t particularly like flying  it was quite a long 30 minutes!
